Catholic-Style Wedding Ceremony

Who presents this lady for marriage?

Friends, we are gathered here today to witness the marriage of __________ and __________. Let us call upon God to be with us today as we celebrate this union of two into one. In the name of the Father, + the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
We are gathered together in the presence of these witnesses to join __________ and __________ in matrimony. Marriage is an honorable estate, therefore, is not to be entered into lightly or unadvisedly, but discreetly, soberly, and with true love. Remember that love and loyalty are the foundation on which a happy home is built. If the solemn vows which you are about to accept are kept, and if you steadfastly endeavor to lead honorable and worthwhile lives, the home that you establish will abide in peace and the marriage will be lasting.
A good marriage must be created. In the art of marriage, the little things are the big things.
It is never being too old to hold hands.
It is remembering to say, “I love you” at least once each day.
It is never going to sleep angry.
It is having a mutual sense of values and common objectives.
It is standing together facing the whole world.
It is forming a circle of love that gathers in the whole family.
It is speaking words of appreciation and demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways.
It is having the capacity to forgive and forget.
It is giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow.
It is finding room for the things of the spirit.
It is a common search for the good and the beautiful.
It is not only marrying the right partner.
It is being the right partner.
No other human ties are more tender, nor vows more sacred than those which you are now about to assume.

Opening Prayer

Let us join in some quiet time for a moment and recognize the Creator God in our midst. “God be very present with us today as __________ and __________ unite in their love as a couple. May they recognize and realize the love we have in our hearts for them today as they prepare to exchange their vows of love. We ask this through Christ Our Lord, Amen.”

Reading 1

The minute I heard my first love story
I started looking for you,
not knowing how blind that was.
Lovers don’t finally meet somewhere.
They’re in each other all along.

Reading 2

“Psalm 1” from The Book of Psalm adapted by Stephen
Blessed are the man and the woman
who have grown beyond themselves
and have seen through their separations.
They delight in the way things are
and keep their hearts open, day and night.
They are like trees planted near flowing rivers,
which bear fruit when they are ready.
Their leaves will not fall or wither,
Everything they do will succeed.

__________ and __________, you have come together in this assembly of your family and friends, so that the Lord may seal and strengthen your love in the presence of the Church’s minister and this community of your family and friends. He has already consecrated you in baptism and now he enriches and strengthens you by a special sacrament so that you may assume the duties of marriage in mutual and lasting fidelity and so, in the presence of this community of your family and friends, I ask you to state your intentions.
__________ and __________ have you come here freely and without reservation to give yourselves to each other in marriage?
Will you love and honor each other as man and wife for the rest of your lives?
Will you accept children lovingly from God and bring them up according to the law of Love and Compassion?

Since it is your intention to enter into marriage, with your hands joined, declare your consent before God and this community of your family and friends.
I, __________ take you __________ to be my wife. I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health: I will love you and honor you all the days of my life.

Catholic Style Wedding Ceremony - Ashton Gardens - Unity Candle with Cross in Background

Unity Candle Ceremony

The candles represent the light from God that you will need to guide you throughout the rest of your married life. The candles also express the silent promise that the couple will continue to be light and warmth to each other for life.
Lighting of the Unity Candle by the couple
The couple comes forward to light the center Unity Candle. Take the flame from the candles which your family have lit.
This center candle is a sign that a new family has been formed today blending all the love, traditions and experiences you have both shared with your individual
families. It also represents Christ, who has brought you both together for this moment and to remind you that He is with you always as a partner in your marriage, to guard and guide you in all that you do.

Liturgy of the Eucharist

Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation. Through your goodness we have this bread to offer, which earth has given and human hands have made. It will become for us the bread of life.
Blessed be God forever.
Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation. Through your goodness we have this wine to offer, fruit of the vine and work of human hands. It will become for us our spiritual drink.
Blessed be God forever.
Pray, my brothers and sisters, that our sacrifice may be made acceptable to God, the almighty Father. May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the
praise and glory of his name, for our good, and the good of all his holy Church.

Prayer of the Gifts

Let us pray. Lord, accept our offering for this new married couple, __________ and __________ By your love and providence, you have brought them together; now bless them all the days of their married life. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Lord be with you.
And with your spirit.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right and just.
Father, all powerful and ever-living God, we do well always and everywhere to give you thanks. You created human beings in love to share your divine life. We see their high destiny in the love of a husband and wife, which bears the imprint of your own divine love. Love is each person’s origin. Love is each person’s constant calling. Love is each person’s fulfillment. The love of man and woman is made holy in the sacrament of marriage, and becomes the mirror
of your everlasting love. Through Christ the choirs of angels and all the saints praise and worship your glory. May our voices blend with theirs as we join in their unending hymn of praise:
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is the person who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

Eucharistic Prayer II

Lord, you are holy indeed, the fountain of all holiness. Let your Spirit come upon these gifts to make them holy, so that they may become for us the body + and blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Before he was given up to death, a death he freely accepted, he took bread and gave you thanks. He broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said: Take this, all of you, and eat it: this is my body which will be given up for you.
When supper was ended, he took the cup. Again he gave you thanks and praise, gave the cup to his disciples, and said: Take this, all of you, and drink from it: this is the cup of my blood, the blood of the new and everlasting covenant. It will be shed for you and for all so that sins may be forgiven. Do this in memory of me.
Let us proclaim the mystery of faith:
Christ has died, Christ has risen, Christ will come again. In memory of his death and resurrection, we offer you, Father, this life-giving bread, this saving cup. We thank you for counting us worthy to stand in your presence and serve you. May all of us who share in the body and blood of Christ be brought together in unity by the Holy Spirit. Lord, remember your Church throughout the world; make us grow in love and compassion, together with the Patriarchs of Alexandria, Antioch, Constantinople, Jerusalem, and Rome. May __________ and __________, now husband and wife, ever realize themselves in their love and compassion for each other. Remember our brothers and sisters who have gone to their rest in the hope of rising again; bring them and all the departed into the light of your presence. Have mercy on us all; make us worthy to share eternal life with Mary, the virgin mother of God, with the apostles, and with all the saints who have done you will throughout the ages. May we praise you in union with them, and give you glory through your Son, Jesus Christ.
Through him, with him, in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours, almighty Father, forever and ever. Amen.

The Communion Rite

The Lord’s Prayer

Let us pray with confidence to the Father in the words our Savior gave us.
Our father, who art in heaven, hollowed be thy name; they kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Sign of Peace

Lord Jesus Christ, you said to your apostles: I leave you my peace, my peace I give you. Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church, and grant us the peace of unity of your kingdom where you live for ever and ever. The peace of the Lord be with you always.
And also with you.

Breaking of the Bread

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: grant us peace.

Preparation for Communion

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, by the will of the Father and the work of the Holy Spirit your death brought life to the world. By your holy body and blood free us from all our sins and from every evil. Keep us faithful to your teaching and never let us be parted from you.

Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb. Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.
Holy Communion.

Body (and Blood) of Christ. Amen.
